Teams switch from Branch when they want smart links, ASO, QR codes, and attribution in one platform — often at lower total cost. This guide walks through a safe Branch → HighGrow migration.
Before you start
• Inventory active Branch links (campaign dashboard export or API) • List deep link paths your app handles (`/product/123`, referral codes, etc.) • Identify print QR codes that cannot be reprinted — migrate these first • Read our HighGrow vs Branch comparison for feature mapping
Migration steps
1. Create HighGrow project (15 min)
Register, create org and project, copy SDK keys from Developer settings.
2. Import links (30–60 min)
Dashboard → Migration → paste Branch URLs or upload CSV. Map each link to destination rules (iOS, Android, web fallback).
3. Integrate SDK (2–4 hours)
Replace Branch SDK calls with HighGrow SDK. Key equivalents: • Branch `createLink` → HighGrow smart link API or dashboard builder • Branch `initSession` → HighGrow deferred deep link handler on first open • Branch event tracking → HighGrow `/sdk/events` or built-in attribution
4. Test deferred deep links
Use Dashboard → Links → debugger. Test on device without app installed, install, confirm landing screen and campaign params.
5. Update DNS & branded domain
Point CNAME for `go.yourbrand.com` to HighGrow redirect service. Update AASA and Android asset links files.
6. Cutover
Switch email and paid campaigns first. Monitor click and install metrics for 7 days before decommissioning Branch.
Common pitfalls
• Forgetting Mac or web fallback routes on universal links • Not testing referral codes through fresh installs • Leaving old Branch domains in email templates
Results teams report
• Single dashboard for links + ASO keyword ranks • Free tier covers early-stage click volume • Faster setup vs multi-vendor Branch + Bitly + ASO stack
